God Promises to Help You.

Suggested Reading: John 14:26; 15:26; 16:7

Fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand—Isaiah 41:10 (13)

Could there be a more appropriate time to be reminded of this wonderful promise of God? How many are feeling dismayed, need strength, need help with life, with grief, with decisions, with healing, with family matters, and problems in general right now.

I am often calling on the Lord for help: big things. Inconsequential things. The Lord has grown accustomed to my voice, my little, even desperate pleas for help; “Lord, help me write this devotion…”Lord help me understand what you are saying in this passage…”Lord help me understand how to use this new and challenging technology…”Lord help me have patience…”Lord help me remember…”Lord help me find this or that…”Lord help me, strengthen me…”

How many times in a day do we call on our mighty God for help? Is there a day that goes by that he does not hear our prayers for help and strength rising up from the earth? When are we not asking for his help or strength? Sometimes it comes immediately and other times we must wait patiently. When we are waiting, we might remember passages such as we’ve read in John 14:26; “But when the Helper comes he will lead you…” When the Helper comes we are able to bear up, to have power, to be led into the truth. With God’s help the gray areas of life become clear, we are guided through the muddle and confusion, things make sense that we could not make heads nor tails of moments before.

God comes to help us solve the deep problems of life, help us through our grief, help us resist temptation, help us bear our disappointments, help us mend broken relationships, help us put the pieces of life back together again. He will come to help us with the big and the small, something as minute as opening a jar that just does not want to open or find our misplaced keys, eyeglasses, or phone. When this earthly life is complete, and we are standing (or kneeling) before him in heaven we will be praising and thanking him for all his help and strength; we will have knowledge of all the ways he helped and strengthened us while on earth. Today we can be encouraged by the promise of his help and strength that does not fail us, ever. Let’s Pray,

Heavenly Father, it is a good thing we do not have to rate a promise because each one would get a ten or be at the top of our list of favorite ones. Thank you for your promise to help and strengthen us, thank you for never leaving us to be on our own or work things out alone. You are awesome and greatly to be praised. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
