Be Encouraged: Your God is Sovereign.
“—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see.” (I Timothy 6:15-16, ESV)
What a description Paul wrote Timothy concerning the God he knew and ascribed to. He knew God as Sovereign, as everything, holding all power. He wanted Timothy to have as strong and unwavering faith and trust in the One and only Sovereign God, as he. When we believe in the sovereignty of God we are believing not only in the power of God, but his sufficiency as well. This belief can have a tremendous and meaningful impact on the way we view our life, our circumstances, and even our mistakes and failures.
Sometimes we might think of where we would have been, or what might have been our outcome if only we had made one decision over another, chosen one path over another. But when we believe and realize that God is not only all-powerful, but flawlessly sufficient, we can think of and view our mistakes, our choices, our missteps differently. Realizing they are not enough to redesign our life or remove us from God’s path for us which is set even before we are born, because God is Sovereign and our life is never outside of his hands.
Paul had a good handle on the sovereignty of God. He had met the Sovereign God on his road to Damascus, on his way to sin against him but had encountered God’s loving Son Jesus and been transformed. Times where people plotted to take his life, times where he was unjustly imprisoned, times he had to speak before authorities, but he never stopped, never slowed down or turned back, but trusted his Sovereign God to deliver him. He believed just as father Abraham had declared long before him, “Is anything too hard for God?” (Genesis 18:14, ESV)
When we, like Abraham, and Paul believe in the One and only Sovereign God we can live confidently and securely, be at peace that our God will make all things come out for his good according to his plans, trust that he will and can deliver us and restore us. Then we are free to live life, released from fear of failure, and empowered to life and be encouraged in our living. Let’s Pray
Dear God, our Father, Creator and Sovereign in all things, how we adore you! We confess that we are not always as awed by you as we should be, forgive us for not being as humble and observant as we should be and thank you for loving us always and being Sovereign in our lives and circumstances. Because you have sent your loving Son Jesus to save us you promises are sealed over us and we can live confidently and securely in each one. Amen
How does focusing o the sovereignty of God release you to live more freely and confidently?
How will you incorporate God’s promise into your plan of self-care?
