In Jesus’ Name, Amen
Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full. (John 16:24, NASB)
Very often, maybe too often prayer is our last resort for trying to get the things we need or want. We may do a lot of things upfront before we finally get around to praying for or about our need. Maybe subconsciously we leave prayer for last because we don’t trust God’s timing or response. Especially if we want or need something right away and we feel he will take his own good time, so we first try to do things our way and leave going to God, last.
Everyday life created all kinds of teachable moments and Jesus never passed them up. In John 16 he took the opportunity to teach his disciples about asking and receiving and having a good outcome when they did. He let them in on a kingdom secret: they could ask God the Father for something in Jesus’ name and the Father would fulfill it.
What do you need today? Is there something you feel you are missing out on? Something you could use, not just in the future but today even. Is there something that would make you feel better right now? Our station in life, circumstances, and situation may determine our immediate needs and desires. A young mother may need a moment to catch her breath, a moment of quiet where no one is calling on her, a single parent may need a little bit of help or support to make ends meet or raise his child, a senior may need to be strengthened or have help to accomplish a task that’s now too big to do singularly, someone who is lonely may need to have some companionship, someone in pain may need their pain to be taken away. There is no need or desire we have that is too big for God or beyond him answering. We have been created by God and believe in and follow His Son Jesus, our Savior, we can ask for anything in Jesus’ name and receive from the Father whatever we ask for. Let’s Pray
The name of Jesus is a powerful name and God you are a loving, caring, compassionate, blessing Father! Sometimes we forget to ask you for whatever we need—or want—in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Today I bring my needs and wants to you in the name of my loving Savior, Jesus…..Amen
