Jesus Helps and Heals, Not Breaks and Destroys
Behold, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. (Isaiah 40:10, NIV)
When we consider the power of Christ and that when he rose from the dead, he came out of the tomb with all power and authority. Isaiah prophesied the coming Christ would be the mighty One, ruling with power. Yet, at the same time he would tenderly care for his sheep and gently lead those that are with young.
I once saw a show where a crocodile stalked and waylaid a pack of baby elephants as they drank from the water’s edge, capturing one with his powerful jaw. A nine month old elephant can weigh as much as 900 pounds, but the crocodile took him down like it was nothing and with great force began to tear at the elephant’s flesh. There was nothing the young elephant could do against the power of the croc. What a shocking contrast to see that same crocodile caring for its young. That same powerful jaw used to destroy a 900-pound elephant now tenderly caring for its young.
The power of God through Christ Jesus cannot be denied. Jesus is strong enough to take down governments, systems, rulers, fierce and formidable enemies, yet with that same power enters in and defends his own, protect his own, and tenderly care for his own. Jesus with all his power can tear to shreds, yet gently care for us. His mighty arm does not crush us but carries us. Praise God we are not the enemies of Jesus to be torn apart or destroyed by him, but his beloved sheep and friends, to be tenderly cared for and carried in his bosom. Let’s Pray
It’s not just about power but knowing how and when not use it. Praise you, our great and loving God that we are recipients of your powerful arm, experiencing it in all the ways that benefit us. Amen
