Regarding Money…

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains. (I Timothy 6:10, HCB)

In and of itself money is not evil. God’s Word teaches us that God does not think poorly, judge, nor condemn us because we want enough money to care for ourselves, our family, provide for our needs, even do those things which are enjoyable in this life. The problem with money does not come into play until we begin to want money more than anything, until we are obsessed with acquiring money, until we are willing to do anything to get (more) money, think it provides peace, security, happiness, and contentment. When we use money as a replacement for him.

God provides money as a useful tool in this life. It’s only one of the resources he gives us to use and have access to in this life. God knows its both dangerous and unhealthy when we depend on money, think money is the answer to all our ills, covet and worship money. God wants to supply all our needs and for us to always keep in mind all our needs are supplied by him—and sometimes he uses money to accomplish that.

We can put a guard over our heart regarding money when we diligently pray that we have enough money to accomplish the needful things in life but that we never desire money over relationship with God and never worship money instead of worshiping God. Let’s Pray,

Lord, give us a right and balanced attitude concerning money as we live in a world that is driven and focused on money constantly. May we stay mindful that you supply all our needs and occasionally use money to accomplish that. Amen
