Regarding Identity Based on Biblical Truths…
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praise of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (I Peter 2:9,)
You are a chosen person, part of a royal priesthood and nation larger than any geographical span or place, someone special to God. You have worth. Jesus died for you. He took your sins away. God valued you so much he sent Jesus to die for you and his death brought you life. You are not walking through life alone and even if you have to do as David wrote in Psalm 23, “Walk through the valley of the shadow of death,” God is with you every step of the way. You are valuable. You are the apple of your Father’s eye.
These are the truths we learn about God and about ourselves through the Scriptures. The truths that help us have a Biblical Identity that we can build upon as opposed to a humanistic or world sense of identity which is never reliable and seldom truthful. The devil invests his time and expends his energy making sure you don’t have any knowledge about your true worth, identity, or the companionship of God. And if you do know he wants to make you doubt what is true.
People who turn to and create false god’s have forgotten their worth and that God is walking with them. They have forgotten their true identity, or never been made aware. They may think they are alone or do not matter. They may think their worth is performance based or established on their material possessions or financial status. Often times people who commit suicide have often forgotten or never been connected to the important truths about identity and worth. There is great power and liberty in knowing your true identity. The devil lies. The world keeps you guessing, looking for new ways to define yourself. There is power in knowing your identity and worth based on biblical truths which do not mislead you or build you up falsely. Let’s Pray,
Lord Jesus help us to learn and know our true identity based upon the truth of Scripture so we can stand firm and do not need the world to define us. Amen
